Waiting for Light

Advent isn’t just about waiting for joy; it’s about acknowledging the pain, grief, and brokenness that many experience, especially during the holidays. This Sunday speaks to how God enters into the darkness with us, bringing peace and hope where it’s needed most.

This final sermon of the series challenges us to let go of our sentimental images of Jesus as a baby and allow Him to grow up in our faith. Just as Mary and Joseph had to let Jesus mature, we must allow our faith and understanding of Christ to grow and transform us.

Christ isn’t just born “then and there,” but here and now in the “mangers” of our lives—whatever they may hold. This message focuses on how the light of Christ shines in the midst of our own personal struggles, confusion, and hopes.

After self-reflection comes action. This week explores how we bear fruit worthy of repentance, showing that true change comes not only through introspection but also through the ways we live out our faith in the world.

John the Baptist’s call to prepare the way of the Lord focuses on internal preparation. This Sunday encourages self-reflection as we examine the valleys, mountains, and crooked paths within ourselves that need healing and alignment with God’s will.

The tension of waiting in hope between what is and what will be. Advent begins with a reminder that, despite the chaos and darkness around us, God’s promises will be fulfilled. We’re called to “stand up and raise our heads” as we await the coming of Christ.
